Skrimpie-Fest!!

Happy Birthday Melissa!

Last Thursday was my sister’s 21st birthday.  I remember going to the hospital 21 years ago to meet my new baby sister and accidently letting her balloon go before we made it into the hospital entrance.  So, our meeting was slightly delayed by my Grandmommy having to take me to buy her another balloon…. Neither here nor there really, just a memory.

Anyway, we proceeded to celebrate the way I like best- with yummy Mexican food!!  Melissa ordered her first official beverage, and thoroughly enjoyed showing the waiter her ID.  Then, right as we were gathering up our things to head out, they plopped a sombrero on her head and started singing her ‘Happy Birthday’ with that cool Mexican accent.  It was really funny, though she was totally grossed out due to how many heads had previously been on that hat.  Then they offered her a tequila shot, which she stuck her tongue in, then poured into her water so as to not hurt their feelings when they cleaned off our table.  Man- we’re a WILD bunch of senoritas!!

The New Dog in Town

Justin has been wanting to get our dog Otis a friend for a while now.  (Some of you may remember our sweet Sadie Bug, the labradoodle.  Though she will always be my little princess, she has a tendency to be a stuck up and dare I say it, spoiled, always-get-her-way little princess.  She would always gobble up her food, then bully Otis for his.  Well, she growled and snapped at him one too many times and he finally retaliated, leaving her dainty self bruised and scratched.  Needless to say, she now lives at my Mommy and Daddy’s house in a four acre fenced in yard, with a pool, and other friendly dogs to play with.  Basically, I’m sure she feels she’s moved up into high society!)

Anyway, Justin finally convinced me to go to the humane society to look around.  I told him (very adamantly, especially given the fact that I really didn’t think a new dog was the best thing for our family right now), that if the dog made me even the slightest bit nervous, we were not taking it home.  He agreed, so off we went.

Well, we arrived, and the Pyrenees that we were going to look at actually did make me slightly nervous with all her barking.  Unfortunately though, when we turned the corner, Justin saw what was the biggest dog I think I have ever seen!!!!..... AND, he fell in love.  I was not so in love, but saddened that this enormous creature was stuffed in a little kennel.  His HUGE baby face looked so sad.  And he just cut his eyes up to look at us.  Pit-i-ful!!  So like a total pushover, I agreed to do the “visitation” part of the adoption.   This giant animal came sauntering into the adoption room and like a little lamb put his head in my lap and let me love on him.  Okay, now in love, but seriously not in love with his size, or giant stomach, or enormous mouth!  Have I mentioned he is HUGE???!!!

Justin begged and we signed.  Dog owners, once again.

Since he is SOOOO big, they required a home study which meant that Jasper had to spend both Sunday and Monday nights in the humane society before our home study was completed Tuesday afternoon.  Unfortunately, Justin has to work in the afternoons, which left me to sign all the rest of the paperwork and be at the home for them to “deliver”  our new “baby”- which yes- by age he is considered a baby...all 140 pounds of baby- AHG!! Room to grow!!

So I guess there’s only one thing left for me to say, “Welcome home Jasper, welcome home!”  :)

The Zoo Crew

Last Saturday,  our fabulous “water babies” group got together for a play date at the zoo.  And it goes without saying that we had a blast!!  Some of us (the more intelligent ones really, given the absurd heat!!) stayed and hung out at the splash pad, but since it was Perry’s very first time at the zoo, Justin and I really wanted to make sure that he got to see all the animals.  And we were SO glad we did!!

Perry absolutely LOVED all the animals, which was no surprise because we watch Baby Noah ALLLLL the time!  (His absolute favorite part is where the two hippos are singing, “Oh, uh, oh!!”   And then the crazy elephant runs through and kisses one of the hippos.  In fact, Perry loves this part so much that he randomly will run up to me and start dancing and singing, “Oh, uh, oh!!” )  Although Perry loved the snakes, monkeys, birds….scratch the birds….. the lorikeets swarmed us, two landed on Justin, and one on me,  and Perry went bizurk (we didn’t see the hippos L ), his absolute favorite exhibit was the “construction zone.”  He went CRAZY over the backhoes and tractors!

Towards the end of our zoo excursion, our baby was on the verge of a breakdown (It was SOOOOO hot!!!, he didn’t have a big lunch, or a naptime).  We ended the day with a relaxing train ride, bell ringing, and then a strip down.  Yes, that’s right.  Our hooligan baby exited the zoo in nothin’ but the diaper on his cute little booty.  Overall, it was such an amazing, fun experience!!

The Emperor's New Groove

A week ago, Perry and I were able to meet up with a good friend and her three girlies for a yummy dinner at Kinomi’s.  We chose to meet at this restaurant for several reasons:  it is in between where we both live, we thought that the cooking show would be fun for the kids, and we both love Japanese cuisine (though our significant others do not).

The night proved to be LOTS of fun!  Perry LOVED watching the chef prepare our food, especially whenever he started spinning the knives and making lots of noises.  Then, he got even more excited when the drummer came out and made his round about the restaurant celebrating someone’s birthday.  At first he just giggled and yelled, and then he got so interested in it that he just stared.  It was the cutest thing!

Finally (I was STARVING!!) our dinner salads came out.  I just love the ginger dressing, and apparently, so did Perry.  He has always been fond of salads, but I just figured that was because of the ranch dressing.  But I gave him a piece of lettuce with the ginger dressing on it to try, and he gobbled it up.  In fact, not only did he share my salad, but when we were finished, he started screaming for Betsy to give him some of hers.  Not his best manners moment, but I was glad he was going crazy for something healthy, at least.

After my steak was cooked to perfection, the chef poured our plates with fried rice, noodles, and vegetables (YUM-O!!), which I quickly drenched with shrimp sauce.  Once again, my little guy went crazy to try some, and not surprisingly so (seeing as how the only think I’ve ever given him that he didn’t like was tomatoes).  He also proved to be quite the fan of delicious food!  One of the waitresses got such a kick out of him eating it so fast, that she gave him a pair of chop-sticks to try.  She was very sweet and even tied the ends of the sticks together so that he could use them a little bit easier.  I figured that he would either throw them down or make a disastrous mess, but instead, he gingerly picked up his rice, noodles,  and vegetables and went to town “chopsticking” them into his little mouth.  I was utterly amazed at his talent.   Maybe one day Perry will be able to teach his little sister how to eat with chopsticks!!  :)
